Stephen Pern's excellent 1990 docu-travelogue of his walk from Hokkaido to Kyushu, largely through wilderness and over mountain ridges. Close readers of Alan Booth's "Looking for the Lost" will recall that Stephen and Alan corresponded for a time and discussed this very trip. Their walking styles/philosophies could not be more different, of course with Stephen clearly preferring those "un-mapped mountainsides" and solitary wilderness that Alan tended to shun. Personally I find this difference refreshing and extremely interesting, Like Alan, Stephen isn't really as well known as he should be, although he is a legend among hikers and long distance walkers, and for my money is probably the greatest living long distance walker. He's also a very talented photographer and an accomplished travel writer. Stephen remains actively walking and tackling new projects, even into his 70's. Check out his nearly two hour film shot during his epic 2012 trek across Britain while on a good Samaritan mission to hang brass hooks inside dozens of unmanned traveler huts, entitled "Hooks", which is part of the same playlist. Unfortunately the video source was of fairly poor quality, so while I have tried to improve the color and audio, I'm there are spots where crazy colors or video compression artifacting are quite noticeable. My apologies...
