Can the ZWO AM5N fit on a Sky-Watcher EQ6 tripod? If you Googled this my video will help! The tripod that comes with the Sky-Watcher EQ6 is a perfect match for the ZWO AM5N mount. But there's a catch. It won't work all out of the box, but for only $2 you can easily attach ZWO's pier extension and AM5 mount. While ZWO sells a lightweight tripod for their AM5N mount, it cost around $350. For $200 you can buy a Sky Watcher EQ6 tripod. The Sky-Watcher EQ6 tripod weighs 16lbs which is more than the AM5! That is still portable but won't fit in your backpack. I try to follow Ed Ting's advice and over mount my telescopes. While you won't see a dew heater on my telescopes, I do deal with wind here in the Mojave desert. Las Vegas enjoys clear skies but winds can be constant so a heavy tripod is a must. If you are looking for alternative tripods for the AM5N mount, I would suggest the Sky-Watcher EQ6 Wave Steel Tripod. In astrophotography, there really is no wrong way in my opinion. I'm sure there's a better alternative but I try to work with what I have rather than spend my way out of solutions. I'm not interested in 3d printing or getting metal machined. I'd much rather be taking images and learning difficult post processing. Looking at you PixInsight!
