Blaine enlisted in the Navy in 2011 at the age of 18. After graduating from SEAL Qualification Training in 2013, he completed two overseas deployments to the Middle East in support of counterterrorism contingency operations and Operation Inherent Resolve. It was throughout these years that Blaine saw the profound impact that human performance could have on both mission success and operator safety and well-being. Too often, though, the operator was not the priority. From 2017 to 2021, Blaine served as a manager for a privately funded international disaster response organization. While playing a critical role in the front-line response to several domestic and international natural disasters, he once again saw how the science of human performance could be applied in high-stakes environments. This experience motivated him to formally study exercise physiology, first earning a Master of Science in Exercise Science at George Washington University and later completing his PhD in Exercise Science at the University of South Carolina. Today, Blaine’s work continues to center on optimizing health and human performance in tactical and high-performance populations. In parallel with his academic and applied research contributions, he also became a professional triathlete, building on his background as both an endurance and strength athlete. His goal is to bridge the gap between the science of performance and its application in the field, ensuring that mission success and the health and safety of those who serve are not mutually exclusive.
