It was the 2nd most-damaging hurricane to ever hit Louisiana, with the 2nd-lowest central pressure at landfall (behind Hurricane Katrina). Its sustained wind speed is tied in 1st place for Louisiana with 2 other previous hurricanes (in 1856 and 2020). After landfall, Ida marched to the northeast, weakening to an "extratropical low" but combining with a frontal zone to unleash a torrent of rain across the northeast US, causing intense flooding in New Jersey and elsewhere.
