A personal vinyl rip of Aretha Franklin's 1975 LP, 'You,' which has never been reissued and remains out of print. Read more history below. 2 songs are available on CD and streaming on the 2021 compilation, 'ARETHA.': https://amzn.to/3NuaVjQ Tracklist 0:00 "Mr D.J. (5 For The D.J.)" 4:32 "It Only Happens (When I Look At You)" 8:55 "I'm Not Strong Enough To Love You Again" 13:11 "Walk Softly" 17:58 "You Make My Life" 22:14 "Without You" 27:29 "The Sha-La Bandit" 31:31"You" 36:15 "You Got All The Aces" 40:09 "As Long As You Are There" The album marked her final collaboration with Jerry Wexler, who signed her to Atlantic Records in 1966 and produced all but one of her albums from 1967-1975. The hits they created together are numerous, including "Respect," "Think," "I Never Loved A Man (The Way I Love You)," "Baby, I Love You," "Rock Steady," "I Say A Little Prayer," "Day Dreaming," "Until You Come Back To Me (That's What I'm Gonna Do)," "Spanish Harlem," "The House That Jack Built," "Bridge Over Troubled Water," "Call Me," "Don't Play That Song (For Me)," and "You're All I Need To Get By." Like it's predecessor, 1974's 'With Everything I Feel In Me' (which has also subsequently never been reissued and remains out of print), the album failed to ignite success similar to Aretha's work in the late 1960's and early 1970's, but these albums are often maligned as being bad bodies of work entirely, which is untrue. Even in Rolling Stone's review of 'You,' which it referred to as "supper-club soul," though the album was criticized heavily, the singing Aretha does across it was praised. She's in the midst of her vocal peak on these albums that have been, for the moment, lost to time. The album's title track is of particular note. Written by Chuck Jackson and Marvin Yancy, it was one of a set of songs they presented to Aretha in 1974 that she largely rejected, except for "You." The songs found a home on the debut album of Nat King Cole's daughter, Natalie Cole. "You" can also be heard being sung by Natalie on her debut album, 1975's 'Inseparable.' The question is, which version of the song do you prefer?
