Link to my Instagram / zacstronaut_glass Photographing glass can be very challenging and over the years of trying to document my work as a glass artist I’ve learnt how to take better pictures through trial and error. I’ve learned over the years how to minimize reflections and various ways to light glass pieces depending on their specific qualities. Transparent vs colored glass presents different challenges so a variety of backdrops as well as lights and their placement make big differences. I have used a couple different light boxes when I was limited for space and they can be worth having. Today I prefer to shoot in a more open area which gives me more control and options for lighting from different angles and with different lighting. I have black curtains around most of the space I photograph in to minimize reflections on the glass . Reflections can hide large areas of focus in some of the marbles and pendants I make which have very small detailed patterns.
