Carcassonne, in France, is one of the largest medieval walled cities in Europe. The legend of Lady Carcas, the Muslim Princess, who is said fo have saved the city from Charlemagne is set in ghe 8th century and is the supposedly the reason the city got its name. The truth? It was Charlemagne's father, Pipin the short who took the city in 759. Charlemagne would have been 17 at the time. The story I tell is a legend documented since the 12th century. Written down by Jean Dupre in the 16th century and by Guilllaume Bess and Guillaume Catel in 17th.
