May 23, 2016 I started my pilgrimage along the Scandinavian answer to Camino de Santiago, S:t Olavsleden. The trail starts in Selånger, 8 km west of the Swedish city Sundsvall on the east coast, I started from Sundsvall (where I got off the train), and walked to Östersund, 268 km in 10 days. On July 11 I will continue on from Östersund to the end of S:t Olavsleden which is at the Nidaros cathedral in Trondheim, Norway. I am following in the footsteps of the Norwegian King Olav who stepped ashore in Selånger with his men in 1030 after living in exile for years, he had been christened while away and was heading back to Norway to bring christianity to the norwegians. King Olav and his men travelled across a beautiful country, with deep forests, open farm areas, tiny villages and impressive mountains, often along lakes and rivers, and when they couldn't find water, King Olav would hit the ground with his staff and a spring would appear. :-) There are lots of S:t Olav springs along the Way. King Olav was killed in the battle of Stiklestad along the way on July 29, 1030, his body was later buried in Trondheim where Nidaros cathedral now stands as the destination for S:t Olav pilgrims. These are the places where I've stayed along the Way so far which I would recommend!
