Fatima Mahmoud Hamoud, now seeking refuge with her family in the port city of Tyre, made a dangerous 15 kilometre (9.5 mile) journey back to her native village of Srifa to recover some clothes for her children. Much of her village has been reduced to rubble during the Israeli bombardment, and there was little left of her family home. Weeping, she picked her way through the debris and managed to pack a suitcase full of dusty clothes pulled from the rubble. Suliman Mohsen also took advantage of the short-lived suspension in Israel's bombing of southern Lebanon on Monday and drove to his father's home in Aytet, a village about 17 kilometres (11 miles) north of Tyre, where Suliman lives. Suliman had not seen his father for more than two weeks and drove as fast as the bombed road could allow. His mission was to try to persuade his father to leave Aytet, a small community neighbouring Qana where at least 56 civilians were killed in Sunday's Israeli airstrike. Not that Tyre is much safer. Suliman recalled how a whole building was demolished when two missiles hit it. Hussein was happy to see his son, but he firmly said no to the suggestion he should leave his home. drone aircraft.
