On Thursday, October 23, 2025, UVA Radiology & Medical Imaging presents the 17th Annual Tegtmeyer Lecture, titled: “Challenges in Radiology Practice: Now and in the Future.” The talk was delivered by James Spies, MD, MPH, FSIR, FACR, FAHA, who is professor and chair of MedStar Georgetown University’s Department of Radiology. Among Dr. Spies's accolades, he is a Fellow of the Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR) and the American College of Radiology and has served on numerous national committees for both organizations; he has served as the Chair of the SIR Foundation, President of the SIR, and as a Trustee of the American Board of Radiology; he has been recognized as a Distinguished Fellow of the Cardiovascular and Interventional Society of Europe (CIRSE) and as an Honorary Fellow of the British Society of Interventional Radiology (BSIR); he was awarded the SIR Gold Medal in 2019 and the SIR Foundation’s Leaders in Innovation Award in 2022; and he has the been the Associate Executive Director of the American Board of Radiology for Interventional Radiology since July 2020. The Tegtmeyer Endowed Lectureship was established in 2009 to honor Charles J. “Tunk” Tegtmeyer. In addition to an annual lecture, the project supports scholarly and educational activities for trainees and initiatives dedicated to the advancement of interventional radiology.
