Geoffrey Dorfman & David Reed on Milton Resnick | New York Studio School

Fall 2023 Evening Lecture Series: Geoffrey Dorfman and David Reed "Who Will Judge Me? A book launch of the new edition of 'Milton Resnick: The New York Studio School Talks, 1968-1972,'" recorded on November 15, 2023. Geoffrey Dorfman, a trustee of the Milton Resnick and Pat Passlof Foundation, is a painter and writer on cultural history, in particular — but not limited to — Modernism and Modern Art. He has authored several articles for Artforum. He received a Henry Ward Ranger Prize from the National Academy of Design in 2006 and an NEA grant for art criticism. This year a solo exhibition of his latest work was held at the Elizabeth Moss Gallery in Portland, ME. A feature length film on him, Painting: The Way Of It,” is accessible on Vimeo, and also on Youtube. David Reed lives in New York City. His paintings combine concepts and techniques used in traditional representational painting with the philosophical and expressive possibilities of recent abstract painting. Sometimes his paintings combine disparate elements that typically do not fit together. His most recent solo exhibitions include shows at Gagosian, Basel (2022), Gagosian, NY (2020 and 2017); Neues Museum Nürnberg, Germany (2019); and Kunstmuseum Winterthur, Switzerland (2018). Please consider making a gift to the Evening Lecture Series. Your donation will support the Series ongoing twice-weekly discussions of contemporary art and art history, which are free and open to all. https://nyss.org/support/donate/ The NYSS Evening Lecture Series is supported in part by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council, and also by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts. This online archive is funded in part by the Joan Hohlt and Roger Wich Foundation, and additional support is generously provided by the Robert Lehman Foundation and many individual contributors. NYSS is deeply grateful for the support of its programs. To find out more about how National Endowment for the Arts grants impact individuals and communities, visit www.arts.gov.
