You get to be the aggro midrange beater shell and open swing 2. You get to be the ping heavy control deck and open block Those are the two decks and play styles in standard. But in eternal you have OTK, combo, burst lethal, high synergy lists, tribal, rally decks, proper ramp etc. You would never be caught dead having both the top aggressive deck being a list that abuses 1 elder dragon for deck building, and have that also be the top control deck. I know which one I will always prefer, and I know there are a lot of people who left the game because they weren't as patient as me to wait two months after every expansion to play their format.
