This is my submission to the 35th M8 Community Jam! The theme was "Random, ERRor" and the optional challenge was to use old spoken word samples. I ended up not going for the optional challenge this time, but instead focused more on the random part of the jam. To start, I created the little arpeggio and bass line in the M8 and really simple WAVSYNTH instruments. Then I connected the M8 to my new keyboard and improvised two separate melodic lines. On the M8 project, those two melodic lines are on tracks 3 and 4, respectively. I then went back and tweaked the M8 instruments to sound a bit more dynamic and interesting. The audio I recorded from the keyboard is quite messy and has more than just a few mistakes in it, but I thought such a thing might be well suited for this jam. The repetitive downward arpeggio and the bass line gave me this sense of sadness and melancholy, which I tried to sometimes reinforce and at other times counteract with the melodic side. Not sure if I was successful, but it's what I was going for. This was a super fun one to put together not only because I got to use the new keyboard, but also because this is the first time I'm actually recording my playing directly without sending the midi notes to a DAW to quantize and fix later. Stuff feels wonky and out of place at times, but I can hide behind the excuse of "well that's kind of the point, right?", hahahahaha... Cheers, folks!!!
