For 50 years, #Porsche has reserved the RS badge for it’srace-inspired 911s. The original 911 Carrera RS 2.7 in 1972 laid the foundation, and today, the 992 #GT3RS continues that legacy with radical aerodynamics, motorsport suspension, and cutting-edge performance tech. But how much of it is truly motorsport DNA, and how much is pushing the limits of a road car? Today, we take a deep dive into what makes the 992 GT3 RS unique, how it builds on past models, and whether it’s the ultimate RS experience. And to find out, we’ll drive it on the road and at the Top Gear Track! Engineering & Aerodynamics The 992 GT3 RS is all about downforce—860KG worth. Its reworked aerodynamics start with a single, central radiator, replacing the traditional three-radiator setup, allowing for active aero elements like movable front flapsand an aggressive front splitter. The swan-neck rear wing, now higher than the roofline, features a hydraulic Drag Reduction System (DRS) for instant changes in downforce. At high speeds, it generates 40% more downforce than the previous GT3 RS, making it one of the most aerodynamically advanced road cars ever. Other elements, like teardrop wishbones and vented wheel arches, improve airflow and increase front-end stabilitywhile exposing the tyres in an incredible motorsport-inspired design. Chassis & Suspension Porsche needed a suspension setup to match all that downforce. The GT3 RS continues with double wishbones, but now with 50% stiffer spring rates and metal ball joints instead of rubber bushings for greater precision. Everything is fully adjustable from the steering wheel, including compression, rebound damping, and differential settings. The Vehicle Dynamics Manager ties together adaptive suspension, rear-wheel steering, and electronic differential lock, ensuring the best possible track and road performance. Performance The 4.0L flat-six has been refined with a new cam profile and extra power, producing 525 HP and 465 Nm. The 7-speed PDK now has a shorter final drive ratio, improving acceleration—0–60 mph in 3.2 seconds, though real-world tests have seen even quicker times. Despite all the added aero, weight is kept in check. The roof, bonnet, doors, wings, and bumper are all carbon fibre, while optional magnesium wheels reduce mass further. At 1450 kg, the GT3 RS is 15 kg lighter than the standard GT3, making it one of the leanest track-focused cars ever. Interior & Driving Experience Inside, Porsche keeps things race-focused. The steering wheel now has rotary controls for suspension, traction control, and differential lock, allowing for real-time on-the-fly adjustments. The DRS button mirrors Formula 1 technology, reducing drag for maximum straight-line speed. With no rear seats, everything inside is about saving weight. Bucket seats, Alcantara trim, and performance screensreinforce that this is a car built for serious driving. Is This the Ultimate RS? The 992 GT3 RS is Porsche’s most aggressive track-focused 911, blurring the lines between road and race cars more than ever. But has Porsche pushed too far with the RS formula, making it too extreme for the road, especially versus the already incredible GT3? That’s exactly what we’ll find out today—real-world usability, track performance, and UK road driving—to see if this is truly Porsche’s greatest RS yet!
