Coalfields Expressway: Route 121 & WV 54, 97, 16 from Beckley to Welch via Pineville 4K Scenic Drive

This drive plunges you into Appalachia on one of the newest roads through the mountains of West Virginia. State Route 121, which will someday be US 121, begins in Beckley, West Virginia, and heads west. Eventually it will take you all the way to Pound, Virginia and US 23, but that's going to take decades, and a lot of blasting and digging. For now, it only goes a few miles, and drops you off at WV 54. From there, we'll go through Pineville and numerous other small communities before arriving at Welch, West Virginia -- home of Steve Harvey and the world's first parking building.
