MT Haven Shipwreck Italy

MT Haven was an 1100 foot long oil tanker that exploded off the coast of Arenzano Italy in 1991. It caught fire and there were several more explosions that killed several crewmen. Because the ship was 7 miles offshore it was difficult to fight the fire so it was towed closer. As it was being towed a section broke off and sank then the remaining part of the stern sank into 260 feet of water. Today the top of the bridge is in 90ft making this a popular recreational to technical dive site just a few miles offshore. Swimming through the wreck you can see the walls buckled from the heat and fires that burned for almost 3 days. There is a lot of superstructure to swim through at all levels and it's very open on the inside. The visibility was well over 100ft and it's turned into a giant artificial reef. This was shot during an incredibly fun Divesoft Instructor Summit in October 2019 with Liberty Rebreather Instructors from all over the world diving both backmount and sidemount.
