And considered Asia's most haunted hotel. My journey to this eerie location began during my final days in Taiwan, a trip where I sought out the island’s most abandoned and haunted places. After stumbling upon some articles and receiving additional details from a friend, I learned about the infamous Sesame Hotel, said to be the most haunted spot in Taiwan. Without hesitation, I packed my camera and ghost-hunting gear, ready to document and investigate this unique and chilling site. But what’s the story behind the Sesame Hotel, and what makes it so haunted? The Sesame Hotel in Taoyuan was once a luxurious five-star resort, now standing abandoned. Built in 1976 during Taiwan’s period of rapid economic growth, known as the “Taiwan Miracle,” the hotel was a symbol of wealth and success. Its owner, Chang Ke-Dong, a former soldier turned entrepreneur, quickly amassed wealth and influence through his construction company and other ventures. However, Chang’s swift rise was matched by an equally rapid fall, driven by corrupt business practices and economic downturns. By 1982, he fled to the United States, leaving behind his businesses, including the Sesame Hotel, which eventually closed its doors in 2008. Although most of the furniture was removed, the building remains, slowly decaying. Rumors have spread that the abandoned hotel is haunted, with eerie events occurring during its final days of operation. Some adventurous locals have stayed overnight and reported seeing ghosts, including a long-disabled elevator that mysteriously moves on its own—believed to be a portal and the site where someone tragically fell to their death. The hotel’s unusual design, with its oddly numbered floors and neglected amenities, might have contributed to its haunted reputation. But for me, it’s a place of history and intrigue rather than fear. As I wandered through the empty halls, I couldn’t help but feel the stories that these walls could tell—from the bustling days of luxury to the silent decay of abandonment and the untold hauntings that linger.
