The widow of the victim of the bombing of the Red Cross in Jalalabad says she never thought her husband would be a target of an attack. Full story: Gunfire on the streets of Afghanistan. On May 29th the Red Cross came under attack in Jalalabad. Bibi Laila thought she had nothing to fear from the familiar sounds. [Bibi Laila, Window of Bashir Khan]: "My husband had assured us that he was working in a safe place. He worked for a humanitarian charity. He was helping people affected by the conflict and by the fighting. The day that the suicide attack happened, I didn't think it would be the office where my husband worked. I thought it had happened at some other place in the city but later we were told that it happened where my husband was working." Now she's a widow with seven children and fears for the future. [Bibi Laila, Window of Bashir Khan]: "We need help. We are a very poor and needy people. I have five daughters and two sons and we all need help because my sons are working as laborers and they need to go to school. Things are bad for us." Bibis husband was the only person to die in the attack. It was the first of its kind on the agency since it arrived in Afghanistan in 1987. The Taliban is denying any responsibility saying they never target those who "truly serve" the Afghan people.
