For his latest collection, Roberto Cavalli drew heavily on the visual legacy of Cher’s 1970s style, using high-energy video projections to set the tone. While the show referenced the over-the-top glamour of Bob Mackie’s iconic designs for Cher, it ultimately fell short of matching their theatrical precision. Cavalli delivered a maximalist lineup rich in color, print, and texture. Python, feathers, rhinestones, and kaleidoscopic motifs were applied to cowgirl-inspired silhouettes—tight jackets, beaded chaps, and fitted shirts—merging western tropes with high-gloss fantasy. Chiffon dresses, layered and flowing, nodded to Ossie Clark’s influence, grounding the collection momentarily in a softer, vintage register. Eveningwear leaned toward spectacle: bodices were engineered for impact, gowns cut to expose rather than conceal. Cavalli’s interpretation of glamour pushed into excess, with showpieces that blurred the line between couture and costume. The results, though technically ambitious, skewed closer to stage wear than to the nuanced drama of his original inspiration. Join our community!
