Looking beyond Prague & Cesky Krumlov? Join me as I explore Pisek, a charming riverside town in South Bohemia, Czechia, that you might not have heard of! In this video, we're taking a look around Pisek, a pleasant town sitting right on the Otava River in Czechia's South Bohemia region. It has a relaxed feel and plenty of history, dating back to its royal founding in the 13th century when gold panning was big in the area (Pisek means 'sand'!). Could this be Czechia's most underrated town? We'll wander through the town centre, checking out the main square, Velké náměstí, with the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary and its clock tower. We'll also see the exterior of the old Pisek Castle by the river and take a look at Palackého sady, the nearby park area. Of course, we have to see Pisek's most famous landmark: the Stone Bridge. It's claimed to be the oldest in the Czech Republic, even older than Prague's Charles Bridge! We'll walk across this impressive 13th-century structure, look at the Baroque statues like St. John of Nepomuk (and his little chapel), and enjoy the riverside setting.
