Hyeres' Tourist Office welcome you between Sea and Sky, to explore the exceptional landscapes and seascapes of the city of the 300 days of sun per year. Located at the extreme South of Provence, Hyeres stretches on a vast territory known for teh variety of its lanscapes, seascapes, underwater sceneries and its mild climate. The archipelago of the "Iles d'Or" (Porquerolles, Port-Cros, Le Levant), 27 000 hectares of waters, 9 ports, 100 km of coasts with fine sanded beaches, cliffs and coves, 4 « Jardins remarquables » (a french label rewarding exceptional gardens), 115 hectares of protected wild nature and many historical monuments offer a wide range of activities to the visitors all year round. Hyeres invite its visitors to walk in the footsteps of those who marked its history and shaped its architecture for 2400 years: : the archaeological site of Olbia, a ancient greek commercial outpost from the 4th century B.C. ; the ruins of the medieval castle built in the 11th century by the local Lords of Fos overlooking the colourful labyrinth of streets of the old town ; The "Saint-Blaise Tower" ; "La collegiale Saint-Paul" and its collection of 400 votive offerings ; the rich facades and gardens of its 19th century palaces and grand hotels ; the Villa Noailles attracted the artistic XXth avant-garde. Hyeres stretches out between sky and sea, on the Giens peninsula. Tied to the mainland by a double tombolo, a quite unique geological formation, Giens is home to Port-Cros' National Park, the old salt marshes, an ornithological reserve now protected with over 260 species of migratory and sedentary birds. Numerous trails and observation posts are available to hikers.
