John Long Memorial Event – 30 April 2025 Organised by UCL Interaction Centre (UCLIC) This special event honoured the life and legacy of Emeritus Professor John Long, a founding figure in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) in the UK and a key architect of UCLIC. Held at 66 Gower Street on 30 April 2025, the gathering brought together former colleagues, students, and friends to reflect on John’s enduring impact—as a scholar, teacher, and mentor. The programme traced John’s remarkable academic journey, from his early research and leadership of UCL’s Ergonomics and HCI Unit, to his lasting influence on the science of design and the UCL community. Speakers shared personal tributes and professional reflections, highlighting the depth of John’s contributions and the many lives he shaped.
