I might share lots of pictures of me out adventuring now that I’m recovered. But recovering me spent the majority of her time chilling out and resting up: napping (a LOT), lying in the garden, or sat on the sofa watching movies and playing xbox. — Sometimes it was what I wanted to be doing: I was genuinely exhausted and eating LOTS and doing next to nothing felt GOOD! But sometimes I felt itchy-scratchy and restless and agitated and grumpy and frustrated. Sometimes I also felt like I genuinely just wanted to go out and do more active stuff. — You have to SHOW your body through your actions that the compulsive movement/productivity it believes is necessary, isn’t. — You have to ACTION rest. You have to ACTION stillness. You have to ACTION sleeping in. You have to ACTION being the one who lets other wash up/clean/tidy away. You have to ACTION taking the car instead of walking. You have to ACTION not going on that walk you ‘genuinely love’. — It might not be what you ‘want’ to do right now. It might not feel easy. It might not seem necessary. It might make you feel anxious or stressed or snarky or angry or low. It might make you worry that if you don’t do XYZ then you’ll lose all your ‘fitness’ (I’ll remind you… fitness built on the back of restricted eating and/or movement compulsions is disorder, not ‘fitness’ of ‘health’), or become a lazy sloth (no shade on 🦥 just reiterating ED BS), or live in filth forever, or not achieve the things you dream of achieving, or never ever want to do anything ever again. — But none of those points detract from the reality that movement compulsions (which include productivity compulsions) HAVE to be tackled to reach a place of full recovery. Or the reality that all those worries are just fears put in place by your ED-driven brain to stop you from doing things differently. — So go and grab some snacks, stick something good on the TV and get yourself nice and comfy. Ride out the itchy scratchy feeling and know that disengaging from your urge to move/do is a giant leap towards your freedom. ---------------------- Instagram: @emilyspence__ Website: www.isr-recovery.com
