In this video I'll show you why a Video 8 cassette cannot work in a VHS VCR. There is a common misconception that an adaptor for 8mm video cassettes is available. Sadly, that is just not the case. VHS C or VHS Compact and Video 8 / Hi8 competed head on in the consumer video camera market. Each had advantages and disadvantages. VHS C had the ability to be played in a normal VHS VCR with the use of the VHS C adaptor. The 8mm range of cassettes could only be played in a compatible camera or 8mm VCR. In this video I'll show you a few of the fundamental differences between VHS C (VHS Compact) and the 8mm video standard and explain why the two are different.
