This story of Buddha talks about the importance of relentless work and the need to train day and night, till we achieve the higher goal that we are aspiring for. Many a time we are not able to sleep because we are too stressed or we may have a lot of unfinished work. But Punna, the slave girl saw that the disciples of Buddha were also awake till very late at night. She was wondering why the monks were not able to sleep. Her query was answered by Buddha himself. The accountant of the capital city of Rajgriha had a slave girl named Punna. One day, her master gave her too much rice to pound. She kept on working till late at night, but still, her work was not finished. She was very tired after all the work and she thought of getting some fresh air so she came outside. Her body was drenched in sweat and she was standing outside in the wind. Suddenly she saw many monks going towards the vulture peak. The monks were let by elder Dabba Mallaputta, who allotted the lodgings to the monk and he was holding the light and showing them the path. Punna started thinking that she was a slave and extremely poor. She had to work hard every day and so she was not able to sleep till late at night. But why the monks were not able to sleep and had to travel at that odd hour?
