I wanted to discuss a topic that is very near and dear to my heart, as I’ve had quite my own personal health journey over the past 10-15 years experimenting from a vegetarian to raw vegan, to primarily carnivore, paleo diet. The change of having primarily plant based nutrients severely damaged my health as a young woman, despite eating extremely clean, taking high end supplements and doing everything right - it was the lack of bioavailability of the plant based nutrients that really negatively impacted my health…and it wasn’t until I introduced animal based foods back into my diet (specially red meat; eggs, organs, organic and grass fed cheese and butter) that my health then again soared. The difference in my energy, cognitive function, hormonal balance, skin and muscle quality, was unbelievably positive when I transitioned back into an animal based diet. Though everyone’s body is genetically different, which allows us some individual variation of how we can assimilate foods and the nutrients in them - the bioavailability of animal based nutrients is superior to that of plants for several reasons. A few being, the phytochemicals in plants that prevent us from properly absorbing the nutrients, and the readily available form of certain nutrients in animals vs plants that don’t have to be converted such vitamin A (retinol vs. beta carotene)… For more in depth discussion, please visit www.felicityfueled.com and look for my newest article.
