"Being from the city, it’s incredibly difficult to find authentic - anything. Forget about the food. To find some authentic Wachipa, we had to look for a village in the hills that could give us the experience we had been looking for." Join travel host Jigme Singh on “Peaks and Platters” brought to you by Homestaying.in, as he explores the unique flavours of Wachipa, a traditional dish cherished by the Rai community. Navigating the rocky Himalayan terrain, Jigme finds himself in “Gurung Busty” where he discovers the first hydroelectric power plant in India. It was installed in Darjeeling, West Bengal. A project with a capacity of 130 kW was installed at Sidrapong (Darjeeling) in the year 1897. After much adventure and discovery, Jigme was all set to learn how to make “Wachiba”, a traditional Kirat Rai dish at the homestay where he was staying.
