MB&F’s New HM6: A Spaceship For Creativity

Space and stars impact watchmaking today as significantly as they always have. But not for the same reasons. The new Horological Machine 6 from MB&F displays hours and minuts, but for Max Büsser, founder of MB&F and HM6 creator, it is firstly a wearable metaphor for comic book hero Captain Future’s spacecraft. But long before that, space and stars comprised the immense system allowing the measurement of time on earth. The (love) story between watchmaking and the universe continues to be eternal. The HM6 is, once again, an outlandish watch that contains 5 spheres (making for 10 sapphire crystal domes!) H to display the time. It is also once again proof that Max Büsser and his “friends” remain totally faithful to their creed: limitless creativity with a stunning level of execution because it is first and foremost a high-end timepiece. The HM6 comprises two of Captain Future’s vessels connected by a beating heart – the tourbillon. Naturally, though Büsser’s thoughts are not easy to follow at times, this heart must be protected” on demand” from aggressive intergalactic rays that could destroy it. For this reason, the watch has a retractable shield made out of titanium activated by the crown. We at The WATCHES.tv are possibly more poetically minded and consider it as above all to a secret system. This watch doesn’t reveal its feelings to anyone and can choose to hide them. The HM6’s minute and hour indicators are half-spheres made out of aluminum that revolve around their own axes. Opposite them, two turbines move in tandem with the platinum rotor, which winds the watch. In the middle of the timepiece a special flying tourbillon makes its rounds underneath a well-finished bridge. The titanium case’s shape is unusual even for an MB&F watch. Indeed, the HM6 is the first creation to present such fluid, organic lines. This also has a direct impact on the wrist because it makes the watch very comfortable to wear.
