Essence of the stotra : Salutations to Shri Kalabhairava who is the supreme Lord of the city of Kashi. Shri Kalabhairava whose lotus-feet are served by Indra, the King of the Devas, who has a snake as His sacrificial thread, Moon on His head and who is extremely compassionate, who is praised by sage Narada and other yogis and who is Digambara. He has the brilliance of a million Suns. He rescues us from the ocean of worldly existence, He is the supreme. He has a blue throat and three eyes. He bestows us with worldly prosperity which we wish for. He is beyond time and imperishable. His eyes are lotus-shaped and His Trident supports the three worlds. He has a trident, hatchet, noose and club in His hands and is the primordial cause of the universe. His imperishable, dark body is beyond diseases, He is the Lord with terrific powers. He loves the vigorous tandava dance. Shri Kalabhairava has an auspicious pleasing form and stands firm as the deity of all the lokas. He is kind and loving and bestows worldly prosperity and liberation to His devotees. He has shining golden bells around His waist which Jingles creating a variety of pleasing sounds. He guards the eternal dharma and destroys the path of adharma (by leading the devotee towards the eternal dharma). He is the Lord who frees us from the bondages of Karma accumulated over several births thereby giving us great Joy. He is adorned with golden-coloured serpents encircling His body. He has charming beautiful feet which shine with gems. He is the eternal, non-dual, deity. He is stainless and pure. He destroys the fear of death within us and has large terrible fangs to emancipate us from the fear of death. Shri Kalabhairava's loud terrific laughter shatters the Continuity of the Sheath of Creation of the lotus-born Brahma from the primeval egg. His terrific glance destroys the net of the powerful and mighty rule of our sins. He bestows the eight siddhis and wears a garland of skulls. Shri Kalabhairava is the ruler of ghosts and goblins, and bestows great glory to us. He is the Lord who cleanses both the merits and the sins of the devotees dwelling in Kashi. He is skilled in guiding us in the path of righteousness. He is the most ancient Lord of the universe. Those who read the eight verses on Shri Kalabhairava with a heart-stealing devotion, will be led straight to the goal of knowledge and liberation which will result in the rise of various auspicious qualities.
