Metz is still one of the most amazing cities, and defended by several rings of forts. Construction of the first series began in 1867 by the French, these were then finished after the Franco Prussian war, by the Germans, who held the area until 1918. Then again these forts were bitterly fought for in 1944. Constant building, rebuilding, strengthening in the face of new munitions development, we see 80 years of evolution of forts in many of them, so I wanted to explore these and show them to you, as much ad is possibly as they were heavily shelled and bombed some are falling apart. But we will visit Feste Manstein, Saint Quintin and finally Fort Diou. and all that is in between. This was one of the more fun explorations of these truly fantastic forts I have done, and I look forward to going back. but join me for a great trip through history.
