Classic TV Theme: Moonlighting

When it was good, 'Moonlighting' (1985) was very, very good. Named one of tv's best 100 series of all time, it elevated Cybill Shepherd's career and made Bruce Willis a star. It's blend of comedy, romance, and creativity won over critics and viewers. But as the seasons passed it became somewhat uneven, going off in directions that left audiences frustrated. Some episodes hardly had a case for the Blue Moon Detective Agency to solve at all. Plus behind the scenes squabbles and other difficulties led to scheduling difficulties. Through the highs and the lows, the theme song, composed by Lee Holdridge with lyrics by Al Jarreau (who performed it for the show), didn't change much and became a popular hit. You'll hear the original version plus the new arrangement from seasons four and five.
