Repair summary for aluminum jet boat after 420 hours running. Lots of cracks all over the place, some serious, some not so important. Cracks were concentrated around the dash and steps, the driver seat area, and toward the front of the superstructure. These areas receive the most stress, while the back half of the boat isn't stressed as much. It is true that I tend to drive relatively fast, and I spend most of my time on the upper-main Salmon which has almost no drifting flat water. So it's a rougher ride most of the time. In contrast, Hells Canyon has a lot of long flat pools. So my hours are relatively hard hours. I also trailer long distances, including on about 30 miles of gravel into Corn Creek. This gravel road is used heavily by rafters, so it can be very wash-boarded, and when it hasn't been graded recently, I'll be down to 5 mph in places. Another point regarding trailering: in the trays above the side windows I store only some short ropes because everything in the trays falls out. This happens mostly when trailering, and less when boating. So trailering is definitely a stress activity. It would be interesting to get some accelerometer data for trailering versus boating...
