Thurston County considers requiring energy score before homes can be listed for sale

Under an ordinance being considered by the Thurston County Board of County Commissioners, homeowners could soon be required to obtain an energy assessment before putting their home on the market. The proposal would require sellers to secure a “Home Energy Score” before listing a house for sale. Under the current plan, a private-sector assessor would rate a home’s overall energy efficiency on a scale of one to 10. The county said the assessment would cost between $150 and $350.
