Bristol Mercury Formation | 2x Lysander & 2x Gladiator
The Shuttleworth Collection’s ‘Best of British’ air show last month featured the rare formation of two Gloster Gladiators - the only two airworthy examples in the world - alongside two Westland Lysanders, the only two flying in Europe. All four aircraft have the same type of engine, the Bristol Mercury. It is believed that there are currently only seven of these engines operational in the world with two others in the Aircraft Restoration Company’s Bristol Blenheim Mk.IF and a further Lysander in Canada. The aircraft seen in this formation are owned by the Shuttleworth Collection, The Fighter Collection and the Aircraft Restoration Company, respectively.
