Pope Leo XIV at Sunday’s Angelus urged those responsible for the escalating war in the Middle East to declare a ceasefire and reopen paths of dialogue, while expressing concern over the situation in Lebanon. “For two weeks now, the peoples of the Middle East have been suffering the horrific violence of war. Thousands of innocent people have been killed, and countless others have been forced to flee their homes,” the pope said after praying the Angelus in St. Peter’s Square.
