Engine knocking can originate from a variety of sources, the focus of this coverage. An intermittent engine noise in our Jeep® 4.0L engine gets a thorough check with the Steelman ChassisEAR. For decades, this tool has been our shop's "go to" diagnostic approach for pinpointing noises. A follow-up is top-engine cleaning with an SUR&R FIC903 and fuel injector cleaning with an FIC203 canister tool. (See additional how-to coverage at https://www.4wdmechanix.com/jeep-4-0l...) The noise is gone for now, compression is on specification, and the engine does not burn oil. In another 50-75,000 miles, we will likely hone cylinders, replace the pistons and rings and rebuild the cylinder head. By then, the engine will have 240,000 or more miles.
