Hi...my name is Roberto. I was fortunate enough to stumble across the Bedouin fishing village of Dahab back in 1987. Here is my story and my adventures. I was on the kibbutz Ein Harod Meuhad in Israel...doing the ulpan. After..I left the kibbutz and traveled to Cairo and Egypt. As I made my way back to Israel I came in through the Sinai. And that is when I stumbled across Dahab just like the many backpackers before me. And Wow!! did I have an adventure there..To give you some choice tidbits here is the following list of some my experiences. First of all...I got to experience the Dahab that is not available today...I got there before modernization hit the small village. When I was there in Dahab there were no hotels...and no internet. I lived in a grass hut for an egyptian pound a night. Our shower was a deep hole with fresh water and a pale and rope that you would throw into it and dump the fresh water onto yourself...I would go and have a filling breakfast at one of the small little eating hangouts and would pay about an egyption pound. I would walk down to Napoleon's Reef and spend the day snorkeling and enjoying the Dahab reefs and fish. For dinner I would have a very scrumptious meal of chicken and salad that was so filling and again would only cost me an Egyptian pound. All day I enjoyed the quiet village and slow pace of Dahab. I was there a few times going back and forth from Sharm El Sheikh to Dahab. As I was there I took some pictures of the local little eating restaurants that I would see...and the morning before I left I climbed a small tower and took an aerial view of Dahab...as you can see at the end of my video there were mostly small grass huts and many of them had generators going for their electricity. Well, this is my story...I am glad I got to experience Dahab before tourism found it...enjoy my video....Roberto...not a hippie but a Dahab backpacker....Shalom!!
