Francoism was based on traditionalism, anti-communism, and Catholicism, with the Phalange as the sole political party. Spain remained neutral during World War II but aligned with the Axis powers. After facing post-war isolation, Spain gained international recognition in the 1950s, joining the UN in 1955. Franco's rule had three phases: post-war repression, 1960s economic growth, and a final crisis as opposition increased.
