Imran Perretta: A Requiem For the Dispossessed

Watch a responsive film, capturing the tone and mood within Imran Perretta's exhibition 'A Riot in Three Acts' – exploring themes of absence, liminality, and contested space that surround Croydon since the 2011 riots. The film takes the viewer from Croydon's Reeves Corner today, through to Perretta's installation at Somerset House; finishing during one of Manchester Camerata's performances within the space. 'A Requiem for the Dispossessed', was composed by Perretta, arranged by William Newell, and co-commissioned and performed by Manchester Camerata, draws on the classical tradition of a requiem and serves as a sonic representation of a civil uprising and its aftermath. This film is in response to 'A Riot in Three Acts', a large-scale installation by artist, filmmaker and composer Imran Perretta, that considered the interconnected narratives around riots, civil uprisings and the systemic injustices that spur such collective actions directed against the state.
