In this tutorial, I’ll walk you through the full process of taking LIDAR scan data from your Eagle scanner, cleaning and segmenting it in CloudCompare, and finally importing it into Blender for visualization and further work. We start by exporting your scan from Ray Studio as a LAS file, then bring it into CloudCompare to clean up stray points, segment out the relevant data, and apply colorization for better visualization. After cleaning, we export the result as a PLY file that can easily be brought into Blender. In Blender, I’ll show you how to set up the point cloud to properly respond to lights using Geometry Nodes, and adjust the point size to find the right balance of resolution and visual clarity. This workflow is ideal if you want to take LIDAR scans from the field and turn them into visually appealing, manageable point clouds for rendering, analysis, or creative projects. Topics covered in this video: ✅ Exporting Eagle LIDAR scans from Ray Studio (as LAS files) ✅ Loading and colorizing scans in CloudCompare ✅ Using segmentation tools to isolate your data ✅ Cleaning stray points with the Statistical Outlier Filter (SOR) ✅ Exporting a clean point cloud as a PLY file ✅ Importing the point cloud into Blender ✅ Using Geometry Nodes to enable lighting and adjust point radius ✅ Tips on resolution and avoiding gaps in the model Whether you’re just getting started with point cloud workflows or need a refresher on best practices, this tutorial gives you a clear, practical example from start to finish. 📌 Tools used in this tutorial: Eagle LIDAR Scanner & Ray Studio software CloudCompare (open source point cloud editor) Blender (3D software with Geometry Nodes) If you have questions about any of the steps, feel free to leave a comment below! #lidar #cloudcompare #blender #tutorial #eaglelidar #pointcloud
