Dive Description: Located in the northern sector of the study area, the landing point is 893 kilometers (483 nautical miles) from Baltasar Brum (Artigas), 613 km (331 nautical miles) from the town of Pintado (Florida), 494 km (267 nautical miles) from the town of José Pedro Varela (Lavalleja), and 559 km (267 nautical miles) from the capital Montevideo (Montevideo). The station is located outside the Uruguayan Exclusive Economic Zone, approximately two kilometers (1.5 nautical miles) within the extended Uruguayan shelf. This area, recognized on August 30, 2016, by the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), increases Uruguay's maritime area by 83,000 square kilometers, extending the continental shelf limit to 350 nautical miles in certain areas. Located at a depth of between 4,100 and 4,200 meters, the site corresponds to the Abyssal Plain, composed of coarse silt or fine sand sediments with possible grayish-brown color changes. There is a possibility of finding polymetallic nodules given their confirmed presence in the Pelotas Basin. Oceanographically, it is located at the base of the Lower Deep Circumpolar Water (LCDW) mass and the roof of the Antarctic Bottom Water (AABW) mass. The fauna is particularly poorly known, although the presence of holothurians is expected.
