110225 IMPAIRED DRIVER HIT FIRE TRUCK AND WRECKER

Just before 2am, a medic unit was on with dispatchers as they followed an impaired driver in a Chevrolet pickup north on I-69. As they approached SH 99, the pickup slammed into the guardrail. Porter Fire was dispatched to the scene. They arrived and blocked the shoulder and two lanes of northbound I-69. A short time later, another impaired driver with a female passenger, driving a Toyota Four Runner, slammed into the front of the Porter Fire truck. The vehicle then ran into the original crash scene, slamming into a wrecker. The driver of the wrecker and another wrecker driver were sitting in the front seat when they were struck. The driver of the wrecker that was struck was injured and transported to Kingwood Hospital. Porter Fire crews were able to get the driver of the Toyota out after removing the driver's door. He was in stable condition, and his female passenger was also in stable condition. The driver of the Toyota told law enforcement he lost control and hit the wrecker; he did not realize he had lost control due to striking the fire truck. DPS is investigating the crash.
