Additional Commentary 🔴: I wanted to share my updated perspective on this. Most of the things I shared in this video remain, but some of my thinking has evolved since then. Mainly, it’s to REALLY accept that most people like this indeed DO NOT CHANGE and it does not serve us to believe in this possibility. This is due to the simple fact that they don’t even see that what they did is wrong to begin with. And will continue to believe this way. Thus, rather than leave room for nuance in this situation (like thinking “I don’t want to see people in terms of black and white”), accept that in YOUR situation, they already showed you who they were. It is also important to keep in mind that we are not talking petty disagreements here but high-level betrayal, so you must really honor your truths in this regard. Don’t let them gaslight you into complying with their narrative and don’t feel the need to soften it for their comfort either. You don’t owe them anything. Though they may accuse you of being petty and unforgiving, hold to your truth from a place of neutrality. You can understand human beings are complex and simultaneously see them for exactly who they are. This is the healthiest and most beneficial mindset if you are someone who has struggled with excess empathy.
