RAGUSA SUPERIORE, SICILY

Day#8 September 7, 2019 -- Arrived Ragusa after an interesting town hopping in Caltagirone, Vizzini and Monterosso Almo. Stayed at Sabbinirica, and Laura, the owner, suggested that we do the 248 step hill climb challenge to Ragusa Superiore. Glad we did and saw a sweeping panoramic view, if not the best, of the entire city. The scenic climb during sunset from the lower to upper towns was a sweaty calf-buster. From the hotel, we walked up to Ibla's Purgatory Church in Piazza della Republica to Superiore's Cathedral of San Giovanni Battista. The stair climb was all uphill but we enjoyed the slow pace while taking stunning pictures of the city at sunset. Along the way, we were also rewarded with pretty alleyways, stately palazzi, and colorful churches. Up in Superiore, we witnessed a wedding in Sicilian style and later, joined in the Ragusa's Annual Beer Festival in September to try their local beer and Sicilian street foods. Returning back to the hotel was much easier as we traced the same route, this time, all downhill. At night, just right outside of the Church of Santa Maria delle Scale was a beautiful and romantic setting where many people sat/watched the night pass by while admiring a breathtaking view of Ibla in glowing lights. Next stop -- Ragusa Marina for a kick back day in the beach!!
