This video explains how to find out torque in case of composite or compound shaft in series. This example is taken from Strength of materials (May 2017 question paper) of S.P.P.U. (Pune University). The problem statement is as follows: A composite shaft consisting of a steel segment & an aluminium segment is acted upon by two torque as shown in Fig. Determine the maximum permissible value of torque subjected to the following conditions: 𝜏𝑠𝑡=83 𝑀𝑃𝑎, 𝜏𝐴𝑙=56 𝑀𝑃𝑎 and angle of rotation of the free end is limited to 6 Degree. For steel, 𝐺=83 𝐺𝑃𝑎 and for aluminium, 𝐺=28 𝐺𝑃𝑎.
