With 5 weeks of free time on my hands, I'm heading off on an adventure. With no real plans and my next stop completely depending on the great Scottish weather and some randomness, I'm heading to different corners of this beautiful country and doing a lot of exploring along the way. I am still in the Deeside area and today I'm visiting another location with some royal connections. Loch Muick is reached by following a small road from Ballater for 8 miles. There is good parking available and also some facilities and a visitor centre. Even though Loch Muick isn't that far away from the main road, it feels truly remote. Along the northern shore you'll also find Glas-allt-Shiel. A lodge built in its current form for Queen Victoria after the death of Prince Albert. Tucked away behind the house is a bothy, open to anyone, as long as the Bothy Code is respected. A wonderful path leads all the way around the loch for a great walk.
