My 2nd test drive with the Mini Electric or is it the e-Mini or Cooper SE? Lots of stuff discussed but if all you want are the key numbers and range watched the first few minutes and the last few minutes. Personally, how the GoM distance to empty gauge varied throughout my tests is the most interesting part. I've got the car for a full day to test the car more fully on a 124 mile trip and an efficiency test to compare it with my current EV, the Kona Electric. Having seen a few reviews where range seems now more than 90-100 miles and a test by Bjorn Nyland where efficiency levels beats the Hyundai Ioniq, I'm confused. How can it be efficient yet have poor range. With efficiency levels reported by Bjorn the range should be closer to 150 miles, 50% more than some tests. My plan is to drive from Bury St Edmonds to Norwich, taking the longer scenic route of around 55-60 miles, driving economically on A and B roads. When in Norwich , I test the car on a test loop where I've compared the efficiency of my Kona and the Hyundai Ioniq. It's a very slow loop of 20 to 40 mph with undulations testing city style driving and slower country roads. It tests overall efficiency including Regen showing perhaps the maximum that can be expected from the car NOT what you can expect on the average trip. This was covered in my part 1 test of the Mini Electric. This video is part 2, the return trip where with AC on and a lot less for efficiency we test the car in more real world conditions. With electric cars you really do need longer than half an hour to determine if the car suits your needs. There's so many things to check as the car behaves differently in different drive and Regen modes. Efficiency and range are impacted by the roads being driven on and your driving style as my videos show. Having reached Norwich using only 31% of the battery the journey details are as follows. 100% SOC, 616 miles, 106 GoM 91% SOC, 633 miles, 106 GoM 81% SOC, 653 miles, 96 GoM 71% SOC, 667 miles, 75 GoM 69% SOC, 670 miles, 70 GoM +2kwh on Zappi charger +6-7% 76% SOC, 670 miles, 78 GoM 69% SOC, 682 miles, 74 GoM Time to drive back with AC on and enjoy the car, hopefully making it back without charging enroute.. At one point the GOM was displaying less range available than needed but trusting the battery % not the GoM got us back to the dealer safely. Completed 124 miles in total with 27% battery left and 26 miles of indicated range. I suspect there was actually more than 26 miles left. I do like the Mini Electric 🤔😍 Octopus energy referral link.... share the benefits of cheaper and 100% green energy https://share.octopus.energy/pink-ros...
