// S1GP // FIM Supermoto World Championship // 2016 // Melk (Austria) 11 September 2016 – In warm and sunny conditions and many spectators around the track, TM Racing rider Thomas Chareyre took his fourth win of the season in S1GP extending his lead in the championship, while TM Racing Giovanni Bussei took the victory in S2. S1GP Race 1 When the lights dropped for the first race in S1GP, it was TM Racing Thomas Chareyre who took the hole shot before Degasoline TM rider Marc-Reiner Schmidt and Austrian home rider Husqvarna H?llbacher Racing rider Lukas H?llbacher. The top five was completed by KTM MTR rider Pavel Kejmar and wildcard rider Andy Buschberger who was showing some impressive speed whole weekend. The four times World champion Chareyre showed he was feeling better again, after being sick all Saturday, and from lap one he was able to pull away from the rest of the field, giving the other riders no change to close in on him. Just behind Schmidt and H?llbacher was fighting for second position in the race. In the beginning it looked that Schmidt was pulling away from H?llbacher, but the Austrian bit by bit came closer again to Schmidt. Pavel Kejmar couldn’t follow the top three and already soon in the race he had to settle for fourth place although he tried everything he could. In fifth position it was still Austrian rider Andy Buschberger, but he also couldn’t follow the pace of the riders in front of him. Meanwhile in front Chareyre kept the speed high and raced the finish line leaving the competition behind as he has done more often the year. After 15 laps he crossed the finish line in first, adding valuable points to his championship total. On almost 4,5 seconds behind Chareyre, Schmidt and H?llbacher where still fighting for every meter, but the German TM rider didn’t make any mistakes towards the end of the race making it impossible for H?llbacher to pass him. With less than a second between them, Schmidt finished in second place, followed by H?llbacher in third. Further down the field Suzuki Grau rider David Gimenez was having a battle with a group of Austrian wildcard riders, a battle which he managed to win. After a difficult start of the race he managed to finish in sixth position. In fourth position Kejmar finished his race on 17:828 seconds behind the race winner Chareyre. The top five was completed by Andy Buschberger making him the best wildcard rider of the first race in S1GP. S1GP Race 2 The start of the last race of the day in Austria was the second race of the S1GP class. The hole shot was for Degasoline TM rider Marc-Reiner Schmidt, but directly in the first few corners TM Racing rider Thomas Chareyre took over the lead from the German number two in the championship. Behind Chareyre and Schmidt, Husqvarna H?llbacher Racing rider Lukas H?llbacher, KTM MTR rider Pavel Kejmar and wildcard rider Andy Buschberger completed the top five. Buschberger made a mistake at the end of the first and dropped down the field giving Suzuki Grau rider David Gimenez the chance to take over fifth place. In the lead Chareyre was accelerating and soon he managed to create a gap of almost four seconds. Schmidt tried hard to keep up with the leader but also had to worry about Hollbacher who was on his back all the time. Hollbacher again had to watch his back as KTM MTR rider Pavel Kejmar decided to not to let go this time as he had to do in the first race. A bit further down the field Suzuki Grau rider David Gimenez had to settle already early in the race for fifth position followed by Buschberger and another Austrian wildcard rider Manuel Stehrer. Meanwhile in the lead Thomas Chareyre didn’t make any mistakes and finished in first position and taking the overall win in S1GP for the fourth time this season giving him a comfortable lead for the last race next week. On 3:99 seconds Schmidt finished in second, followed by Hollbacher who took third place, not only in the race but also in the overall results in Austria. Kejmar and Gimenez completed the top five in S1GP.
