Presented by Logan Whitesel, an undergraduate student at the University of Delaware and 2021 participant of the ASM Student Speaking Sympoiusm (S3). In order to test this in our lab, we needed to design and build an electromagnet that could withstand the vacuum of a Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy machine and also apply a tunable field. While we have not yet been able to test Topological Insulators with the electromagnet, we were able to confirm that the magnet works and the field can be tuned reliably using a power source.
