I really struggled to find resources around Glottoplasty also called Voice Feminization Surgery, particularly from those who went to the London Voice and Swallow Clinic. So I set out to make an informative capture of my experience with the procedure and include as much information as possible, that I wished was available when I was looking into it. If there's anything I missed or anything you like to know, please feel free to post below and I'll do my best to answer. To give context to the video and possibly answer in advance some questions people might have. I'm 27. I started HRT 3 Years ago. I had been voice training for about a year and had roughly 15 sessions with a vocal coach. I first emailed the clinic with my inquiry on the 20th of July and had my surgery on the 17th of October. The process involved an online consultation for which I supplied two voice recordings. These were assessed in advance of the meeting where my goals and outcomes were then discussed with Dr. Al Yaghchi. It came down to two procedures, Glottoplasty or VFMR. Glottoplasty is when a portion of the vocal cords are joined together to reduce their length, this is then combined with lasering the tops of the vocal cords in order to change their tension. VFMR is just the laser portion which increases the tension on the vocal cords. This was explained to me with a comparison to a guitar. Two ways you can increase the pitch of a guitar is to increase the tension on the string or to shorten it. Glottoplasty has more drawbacks, such as the decreased volume and vocal range. But comes with the benefit of likely having a higher increase in pitch. VFMR doesn't have anywhere near as many downsides with a smaller expected increase in pitch. I opted for the Glottoplasty. My pre surgery voice averaged 165hz with my 2 months post surgery voice averaging 215hz. Measured by Dr Al Yaghchi based on my initially supplied recordings as well as during my post op checkup.
